When The Brook Drys Up

“When The Brook Drys Up”
1 Kings 17: 1-7

1 Now Elijah the Tishbite, from Tishbe  in Gilead, said to Ahab, “As the LORD, the God of Israel, lives, whom I serve, there will be neither dew nor rain in the next few years except at my word.” 2 Then the word of the LORD came to Elijah: 3 “Leave here, turn eastward and hide in the Cherith Ravine, east of the Jordan. 4 You will drink from the brook, and I have ordered the ravens to feed you there.” 5 So he did what the LORD had told him. He went to the Cherith Ravine, east of the Jordan, and stayed there. 6 The ravens brought him bread and meat in the morning and bread and meat in the evening, and he drank from the brook. Some time later the brook dried up because there had been no rain in the land.

This is the story about Elijah’s prophecy that brought a drought in Israel for 3.5 years. His obedience to God brought a personal drought also. He became a wanted man by Ahab because of his prophesy (no rain for 3.5 years). Obedience does cost us at times, just as disobedience can cost us. It would seem the other way around but we know Jesus’s obedience to God cost Him everything. The reward of obedience will always come from the Lord but sometimes the effects of our own obedience or prophecy can lead us to a place called Cherith.

The Definition of Cherith is to cut or to separate. God commanded Elijah to go to the brook Cherith by the Jordan River and that He would have some Ravens feed him there. Of course there were no Taco Bells in Elijah’s days or maybe God would of sent him there. We all need the Lord to lead us in the path of His provision. Cherith was a place of provision but it was also a place of cutting and separation. God has many things planned for our future and He will cut on us at times to remove the past. At Cherith we start getting comfortable with Gods provision not realizing that He brings us to the Brook Cherith to completely separate us from what stands in the way of our destiny. We want miracles but no cutting or separation.  Doesn’t quite work that way. Our willingness to allow God to cut on us moves us to a place of character and of course we all know that character is defined by fruit not by gifts. Gifts can open doors but only character can keep us as we walk through those doors. I get real uncomfortable when the Holy Ghost starts cutting (circumcision of the heart). But I have learned to say yes Lord and yeild that area to Him. I have seen more men and woman of God fall because they went through a door that their gift opened but fell hard because of a lack of character. Many times the Lord will allow us this opportunity if we want ministry over character and proper timing. It’s better to not fail this way as I have myself but if you have moved to quickly into position before your character was developed and have fallen, take heart, the Lord still has a place for you. This time wait for the Lord to say come higher and He will make and clear the way. Being in ministry is not for the weak in heart or those with unhealed wounds. Let the Lord raise you up and when He opens the door for your gift to function many will be blessed. The devil will always mess with anointed people on assignment. But when you know deep in your heart that the Lord has placed you where you are at, you will dig your heals into satans neck and shout many times over, I will never quit, I win you lose.

v7. says it came to pass after awhile that the brook dried up. God sent Elijah to Cherith and now God’s provision is not working anymore. I have been there myself. I was enjoying my life minding my own business, God was cutting and separating things out of my heart, and I think Lord I am going through so much and I know you know I can’t take one more set back and then on top of all this my brook (Gods provision) dries up. We cry what’s up God? Now what?

If you find yourself in a place like this, here are a few reasons to consider why the brook (Gods provision) my have dried up on you. trust me it’s a whole lot bigger than the economy. The Lord said even in the days of famine we would enjoy plenty or be satisfied. Psalm 37:19 God is bigger than the economy and lets stop saying that. Lets get honest with ourselfs.

1st reason the brook can dry up: Maybe we are suppose to be somewhere else and doing sometime else. If this is the case the brook will dry up. Find what the Lord wants you to do and where He wants you to be (location, city job etc) and Gods provision will show up. Maybe the Lord allowed this to happen to get you positioned in life differently. You may be saying the Lord doesn’t really have my life all planned out. He doesn’t really care what kind of work I do or where I work. Please don’t try to lower God to your level of thinking. He knows all the hairs on your head and not just yours but 6 billion other people all at once and could tell you the number if there is one in our language. Maybe this is why your at where you are. Don’t fail to ask the Lord about all the details of your life. He wants to be involved with you always. God is not complicated, He is a great father and Jesus is your best friend. selah…… think on this

Another reason Demonic attack: You say I am under attack by satan. He keeps shutting me down and stealing from me, well it is time to get your sword out and start sharpening it. Think about this if Jesus gave us all power over him and completely conquered him on the cross, then we are the ones who are suppose to be doing the shutting down, not getting shut down. I must say this, there is a price to pay with fasting and prayer to overcome this front line attack. We already have power over satan and this is where we start using it. Pray about doing some fasting, let the Holy Ghost lead you to your river of living water.

Still Another reason the brook dries up Miracles: Now the Lord is ready to move you to a place of miracles. You have allowed Him to cut on you and separate you and now He allows the brook to dry up to get you moving toward your miracle. Elijah was told to leave Cherith and move to Zerephath. Elijah experiences Gods provision again from an unlikely source, a widow woman ready to die but God used Elijah to save her and her son through a miracle of supernatural provision that sustained them till the famine was over.

Whatever reason your brook has dried up, just begin to move with God to the next phase of your life. It just may be the best days of your life are just ahead. Remember we are living in troublesome times. Guard your faith and love walk. Refuse to quit no matter what happens on this earth. Jesus loves you and has a wonderful plan for your life, family, business and of course ministry.

God Bless You !
